You know all that work you do that no one ever gets to see? Bring it to The Show!

That's right, at Previs 2011, we're hosting a "Show and Tell" seminar where you can present and discuss all the incredible work that formed the heart and soul of the shots and sequences we've all seen and loved. During this visual extravaganza attendees will get inside access to the latest techniques, trends and applications being developed and applied to all the films, commercials and video games we've seen and loved. At Previs 2011, we're encouraging the entire previs community to come out and show their work.

Discussion Circles

Our most popular event from last year gets expanded with more discussion time and great new luminaries for 2011!

Breaking into smaller, intimate groups, this segment is a moderated forum where open and frank discussions between peers across the industry will be encouraged. Professionals from different backgrounds in the film, advertising or games industries will be invited to discuss how Previs has been used in their area of expertise.

This is your chance for an up close and personal, no holds barred, participant takes all chance to ask specific questions, get answers, voice views and espouse ideas. These smaller groups are a great opportunity for young and veteran filmmakers and they will be followed by a short wrap up session where, hot topics and lessons learned will be summarized for future discussion.

Event Speakers


Tim Alexander

In 1996 Tim Alexander joined Industrial Light & Magic where he rapidly ascended from the rank of compositor to a Visual Effects Supervisor. As a testament to his drive and tremendous talent, Alexander has twice been nominated for the BAFTA award, one resulting in a win for The Perfect Storm.  He has also received a Visual Effects Society award nomination for Best Visual Effects of the Year for his work on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.  Prior to joining ILM, Alexander spent three years at Walt Disney Studios where he worked on the feature film James and the Giant Peach. His most recently worked as Visual Effects Supervisor on Gore Verbinski’s first animated feature, Rango.

 

Colin Benoit

Benoit has worked as a Layout Supervisor on Poseidon and Iron Man, as part of a small, fast-paced previsualization team on Speed Racer, and as an Animation Sequence Lead on Star Trek, supervising camera work and animation for the space jump sequence.  Most recently, he's been leading the layout team on Rango, ILM's first animated feature, where he's had the opportunity to work extensively with Director Gore Verbinski to help achieve a style that is incredibly unique for the animated film genre.


 

AJ Briones

AJ brings over 12 years of film and games experience to HALON, with an emphasis on animation, motion capture and cinematics. His career began at Sega of America managing the online experience for the Dreamcast system while also working on triple-A titles like Sonic Adventure and ChuChu Rocket.  AJ's move to film, created final animation for Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, led full sequences as a Lead Cinema Artist for James Cameron’s Avatar, and created previs and postvis for Iron Man 2 before joining HALON as a previs artist on Battleship. AJ then went on to supervise previs on the commercial HALO Reach: Deliver Hope commercial for method and Summit Entertainment’s Twilight: Breaking Dawn 1 and 2.

 

Duane Floch

Duane began his professional career as an orchestral trumpet player in Germany in 1984. From 1996-2001, he taught computer animation at Digital Media Institute and Video Symphony in Los Angeles.  During this time he also worked as Creative Director for a tech startup. Duane began working in the field of Previsualization in 2001 and joined PLF in 2004.  He has worked as a Previsualisation and Animation Supervisor on features, commercials, and video game trailers/cinematics. His filmography as a Supervisor includes The Incredible Hulk, Zoo Keeper, Fantastic Four, and most recently, Pirates of the Caribbean IV: On Stranger Tides and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Duane's final effects work includes The Box, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and Forza game cinematics. 

 

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson joins the HALON crew with over 15 years of experience in the visual effects fields for companies like ILM, EA-LA, Sony and Disney Imagineering. With extensive VFX skills in tracking, animation, lighting and compositing, high quality and technically accurate postvisualization comes very naturally to Jackson.  Starting at HALON back in 2008 as a previs artist on Gulliver's Travels, Michael came back in 2010 to lead postvis for Gulliver’s Travels. He recently finished up as postvis supervisor for Cowboys & Aliens and went on to support the postvis effort on Pete Berg’s Battleship before starting up a postvis team for a Ridley Scott production.

 

Yuri Neyman

Yuri Neyman, ASC graduated from Moscow Film Institute (VGIK) with honors in the art of cinematography and photographic engineering. Before emigration to USA he worked as Director of Photography / SFX Supervisor on about half dozen films. For more than a decade now Yuri has been using his artistic and scientific knowledge, developing patented "Thorough Control System" and "Cinematographers Color Correction Process (3cP)" - method of the media-to-media transfer, which incorporates the transfer and calibration standards of both cinematographer and post production facilities, data managing and previsualization tools helping to ensure accurate reproduction of cinematographer's intention.

 

Casey Schatz

 Casey Schatz graduated from CalArts in 2002 where he studied photography, theater, and computer graphics. Upon graduating, he realized that previsualization was the perfect synthesis of these different art forms. By initially specializing in previs for motion control cranes, an obsession began with bridging the worlds of traditional live action cinematography and camera work in the cg environment. Currently Casey is with Giant Studios to leverage the abilities of motion capture for previsualization and simulcam. Credits include: Real Steel, Avatar,Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Flags of our Fathers, and over 30 commercials. Outside of work he enjoys photography and spending time with his wife Giselle.

 

Marty Shindler

Marty Shindler is CEO of The Shindler Perspective, a husband & wife consulting practice with Big 4 professional service firm and top 5 business school credentials.  The firm consults on business matters in a range of creative & technology businesses, from 3D, visual effects, DVDs and home entertainment options, movie libraries and their valuation to production techniques, specialty formats, and other aspects of the entertainment value chain. His prior employment includes 20th Century Fox, Lucasfilm's Industrial Light & Magic, Kodak's Cinesite and Coopers & Lybrand (PriceWaterhouseCoopers).
