I can see some possible future uses for such a device. I think the low level of complexity is what will make it actually useable by creatives. Right off, great for reviewing boards, animatics and previs on location. Can't believe there's no camera for video conferencing though.
I can see some potential, but overall, it just seems like a scaled up ipod touch/iphone. From what I've read, the ipad still lacks many functions that i would've liked to have seen in something like this, like a camera for video conferencing (as Albert Cheng mentioned above) or even the ability to get away from apps
